Reflection: Learning to Listen to My Body and My Energy
Building a business, no matter the size, also grows you as a human.
This past week, life was teaching me (again!) to schedule my days according to my energy. I can design my day - and my life - as I want it to be. It’s an exciting indulgence at first. Then it’s a confusing burden to completely redefine what work and life “balance” means to you. Then once you figure it out, it becomes a true privilege to have increased agency over your time.
I am learning that I don't have to necessarily work exactly from 9am until 5 pm (or later). I might work all weekend long, and I might not work on a random Tuesday. I can get up out of bed and feel energized to start right away, or I might jump into work after lunch. I don’t have to beat myself up on what I should be doing. All of it is perfectly imperfect.
Perfection requires future planning and control, but the future isn't alive yet and control is an illusion. Releasing control (and all the “shoulds” with it), feels more creative, responsive, more sensory. Moving like nature does - instinctual, intuitive.
The mind is interwoven with the body, they are not separate. My goals may drive my mind, but my body fuels my mind and spirit. I listen to my body and in return, I get the energy to live a bigger life.
I'm still learning to interpret the mother tongue of my own body's language; to parse its particular signals from the noise of my surroundings. But I do know that every time I've trusted my body as my guide, the more I have exactly what I need in that moment. I don’t want to aim for perfect ever again. My aim is to create life from this messy and imperfect moment.
