I love hearing about people’s leaps of faith - the risks they took to live in alignment with their values.

The moments where they diverged from the standard “checkbox” path of life. They finally decided to take their passions seriously, or they took a career break, or even transitioned into a whole new career. They took the risk. A values-based, from-the-gut decision. The one that rarely makes sense to their families, communities or the world, but resonates deep inside of them.

I’ve taken a few risks like that in my life - career transitions, career break, entrepreneurship - and I’m so glad I did. Slowly removing yet another false limitation so I can live closer to my fullest expression. It’s thrilling and scary - a combination I now recognize as growth.

I love that feeling. I always encourage others to take the risk, grow through the fear, and experience their fullest expression.

I support people and organizations in taking that leap. Especially if you’re someone that our world marginalizes. If that’s you, let’s talk, please. The world need’s your perspective and vision.

Some fun facts about me:

My mini-me, Sherita, that traveled the world with me!

My mini-me, Sherita, that traveled the world with me!

  • I live in Philadelphia. Before Philly, I lived in California, Georgia, Virginia, and New Jersey.

  • Between Georgia and California, I traveled around the world for 18 months! You can read the naive (and personally cringe-inducing) reflections of my younger self on my old travel blog.

  • Before Philly, I lived the digital nomad life in Bali and India for 18 months.

  • My curiosity is insatiable - I am a life-long learner with a growth mindset.

  • I love hearing people’s stories. There are as many ways to live life as there are people, and lessons to learn from everyone. We are such fascinating creatures.

  • I’m passionate about personal development, mental health, the environment, and social justice - especially around race, gender, sexuality, and ability.

  • I’m also a photographer and mixed media artist- check out my portfolio site.

  • My brain is kind of ambidextrous - I can be both strictly analytical/ordered and wildly imaginative/creative. I deeply love both the arts and the sciences.

  • I love deep 3AM heart-to-heart conversations, riding motorcycles on curvy roads, nurturing through cooking, every form of the arts, learning new crafts, and every single thing about dogs (they are literal angels on earth!).

  • I once had a side gig as a mobile DJ. Holiday parties were the best, tween birthday parties were the worst.

  • Two important communities in my life are StartingBloc for social innovation and Burning Man for radical self-expression. I especially love when they overlap!

I wrote this in 2011, on the chalkboard wall of a cafe in Xela, Guatemala. It was the first real stop on my 18 month around-the-world backpacking journey. I dreamt and saved for 7 years to make that trip happen. It remains the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.
