She listens more than she talks, gains trust through her genuine desire to learn about people and their work and how she can make it better together. Additionally, she was a reliable partner and trusted adviser to me, constantly teaching and pushing me to be my best self despite the fact that she was the one who reported to me. I was lucky to have a chance to work with her and hope I will again soon.

What does Hatch & Bloom offer? What’s an Idea Doula?

Pathfinding - from idea to execution

I wear three hats - coaching, strategy, and project management - to support you in finding your path from idea to execution. I choose to call myself an Idea Doula because bringing an idea to life is a multi-dimensional and emotional journey that challenges you personally and professionally.

I view your work as the expression of your gifts and lived experiences. Hatch & Bloom is an expression of my innate talents and unique journey. The first 5 years of my career was in electrical engineering on a nuclear aircraft carrier. Sounds impressive, but the truth is that I hated it. At the age of 23, I decided to start living for myself and shedding everyone else’s expectations. I evolved my career, focusing on the parts of each role that gave me the greatest sense of flow. I’ve worked hard to understand who I am and what I am meant to be doing here on earth.

In all of my work, my strengths became clear:

  • Coaching - I help others clarify and hold true to their vision, while catalyzing their personal growth.

  • Strategy - I can see all the fertile possibilities of a new idea and still map out a path forward without getting overwhelmed.

  • Project Management - I create order from ambiguity, hold the big picture and tiny details simultaneously, and remain calm amidst chaos.

My career extends across a variety of roles and industries, but the common thread has always been making big visions come to life. Transforming vision into reality is an unparalleled experience - from the moment an idea is Hatched, all the way to its first Bloom.

She really pushed me to stop coasting and look for more. When I was uncertain, she listened to me and helped me think through the mess in my own head. I was inspired by our conversations to start looking for new work, pushing my consulting business, and expecting more of myself. I just signed an offer letter for a new job that will be a full on salesforce admin position at a nonprofit in the Bay Area. It’s my first six figure salary and will still allow me to pursue my consulting clients.

The beliefs that drive Hatch & Bloom:

USE YOUR Talent, LIVED EXPERIENCES, AND PRIVILEGE TO DO GOOD IN THE WORLD

I believe the purpose of life is to understand how our talents, lived experiences, and privileges can be combined to bring good into the world. That is our unique self-expression of the universe (or Nature or God or whatever word you use), and it is a gift we should pay forward.

The world needs your self expression

My life’s work is helping others (and myself) find their fullest self-expression, in all arenas of life. I believe your business or work can be a form of self expression - a place where your talents and specific life experiences can blend to offer a gift to the world. The world needs the fullness of our identities, creativity, and authenticity. So much of our pain comes from not being allowed to be fully who we are. Instead of living to meet the expectations of others, let’s live in our purpose. Our time on earth is limited - be real and be healed.

Freedom of self expression as resistance and Liberation

I believe full freedom of self-expression requires freedom from systematic oppression. I imagine a liberated world as one where every individual has the means and ability to discover and pursue their natural gifts. In the mean time, we are choosing to lose out on the creativity and gifts of billions of souls. I will always be on a journey of unlearning my own oppression, while also learning my role in stopping the systematic oppression of others.

Sherry really helped me put things into perspective, and shift the way I was pitching myself and that has really turned things around for me. If you need real talk I highly recommend her.

I wrote this in 2011, on the chalkboard wall of a cafe in Xela, Guatemala. It was the first real stop on my 18 month around-the-world backpacking journey. I dreamt and saved for 7 years to make that trip happen. It remains the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.

The values that drive my life:

Authentic Connection, Curiosity, Intentionality & Growth

I value authentic human connection. I treasure conversations that go deep and reveal new perspectives.

I’m curious about the world around me and inside of me. I love learning, personal growth, and development. I am constantly examining my own lived experience to learn about myself and the human condition. It helps me helps me evolve my beliefs and values, while making meaning of the world and life.

I actively co-create my life with the universe. I try to live with intention and in accordance with my beliefs and values. I try to live fully, appreciating the full cycle of life, including death.

Most importantly, I keep trying. I’m a recovering, hard-on-myself, Type A perfectionist. I try to let go, to improve, and to grow in all parts of my life. I’m learning to own my messiness. I am human, which means I mess up frequently, but I never stop trying.
